Paying with your SBI Credit Card on merchant’s app just got safer, smarter, and extremely personal. Now you can complete online transactions with Face ID or Fingerprint authentication. After successful enrollment, eligible transactions may be completed using biometric authentication!

How to Get Started

One-time setup:

1. Go to payments page on the merchant’s app (e.g. Flipkart Mobile App)
2. Select credit card as your payment option
3. Add your SBI Credit Card details or select from saved card
4. While submitting OTP, choose ‘Set up Face ID or Fingerprint’ on merchant App
5. Follow the steps to register your biometrics for future payments

Note:The transaction will be processed parallelly and authorized basis the OTP entered and biometric enrollment failure, if any, will not affect the transaction.

6. Once biometrics are enrolled with the merchant, subsequent transactions can be done using face / fingerprint scan instead of OTP

Future Transactions:

Once biometric enrollment is complete:

1. Go to payments page on the merchant’s app
2. Select your SBI Credit Card (choose from saved card or enter card details)
3. On prompt, tap ‘Confirm Payment’ and authenticate with Face ID or Fingerprint

The mobile number registered on the merchant’s app should be the same as the Registered Mobile Number of your SBI Credit Card.

Currently, this feature is not available on RuPay / American Express SBI Credit Cards.

Q1. What is biometric authentication for payments?

Biometric authentication allows you to use your Face ID or Fingerprint to securely complete online transactions with your SBI Credit Card on supported merchant app. Instead of entering the OTP, your identity is verified instantly through your device’s biometric system.

Q2. Is it safe to use Face ID or Fingerprint for payments?

Yes. Your biometric data is unique, and coupled with SIM Binding, it provides an added layer of safety and reliability to your payments. Authentication is enabled only on the registered device associated with the enrolled mobile application.
Additionally, it eliminates the need for OTPs, which can be vulnerable to phishing, smishing, and vishing attacks.

Q3. Do I still need to enter an OTP for transactions?

No. Once you’ve registered your SBI Credit Card with biometric authentication, you can complete payments without entering an OTP.

Q4. How do I enroll my SBI Credit Card for biometric payments?

1. Go to payments page on the merchant’s app
2. Select credit card as your payment option
3. Add your SBI Credit Card details or select from saved card
4. While submitting OTP to complete your transaction, select ‘Set up Face ID or Fingerprint’

Q5. I don’t have Face ID or Fingerprint set up on my device. How can I proceed?

You’ll need to register biometrics on your smartphone first:
1. Open your Device Settings.
2. Set up Face ID or Fingerprint recognition as per the instructions on your phone.
3. Once biometrics are captured, return to the merchant’s app and complete the enrollment process.

Q6. How can I de-register my SBI Credit Card from biometric payments? I want to switch back to OTP-based payments:

1. On the merchant’s app, initiate a payment.
2. Select ‘Use OTP’ option for authentication.
3. Choose ‘Disable Payments with Biometric’.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete de-registration. Once done, your transactions will revert to OTP verification.
Note: The transaction will be processed parallelly and authorized basis the OTP entered and biometric de-registration process will not affect the transaction.

Q7. If I change my Face ID or Fingerprint on my device, will I need to enable biometric payments again?

Yes. Updating or re-capturing biometrics on your device automatically deregisters your existing setup. You’ll need to enroll your SBI Credit Card again for biometric payments on the merchant’s app.

Q8. What happens if I delete and reinstall the merchant‘s app, or clear app data?

If the merchant’s app is deleted / reinstalled or app data is cleared, your biometric payment setup will be deregistered. You’ll need to enroll your SBI Credit Card again for biometric payments.

Q9. What happens if my Face ID or Fingerprint doesn’t work during payment?

You can always switch back to the traditional method by choosing the OTP option on the merchant’s app to complete the transaction.

Q10. Which devices support biometric payments?

Any smartphone with Face ID or Fingerprint recognition enabled (Android: Version 6.0 & above | iOS: Version 13.0 & above), along with the latest version of the merchant’s app, support biometric payments.

Q11. Is there any extra charge for using biometric payments?

No. This feature is completely free for SBI Credit Card users on the merchant’s app that supports biometric authentication.

Unless otherwise indicated, the term Card or Credit Card refers to a card issued to a Cardholder by SBI Cards & Payments Services Limited (SBICPSL) on Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or RuPay network and also includes our Co-Branded Cards

All references to Cardholder mean the individual to whom an SBI Credit Card has been issued and who is authorized to use it in accordance with these Terms & Conditions.

SBICPSL, along with its authorized authentication service providers, facilitates biometric-based authentication, while the merchant app manages the biometric enrollment and authentication process on the Cardholder’s device.

Biometric templates are managed within your device ecosystem and are not stored by SBICPSL.

1. Purpose of Biometric Authentication

By registering for biometric authentication, you agree to use your fingerprint, facial recognition, or other supported biometric identifiers to verify your identity for secure online credit card transactions.

2. Consent

By selecting ‘Enable Biometric Payments’, you consent to the use of device-based biometric authentication for eligible card transactions. Your biometric information is never transmitted to SBI Card and remains securely stored within your device’s operating system

3. Security

Biometric authentication provides enhanced protection compared to SMS OTP or password-based methods.

However, Cardholder remains responsible for maintaining the security of its device and ensuring that only Cardholder’s biometric data is registered. In case multiple fingerprints are registered on mobile device of same or different user before biometric registration then all of these fingerprints can be used to authenticate transaction.

4. Device Responsibility

You acknowledge that biometric authentication is device specific. If you change or reset your device, you may need to re-register your biometrics to continue using this feature.

5. Limitations

Biometric authentication may not be available on all devices or operating systems or merchant apps. In such cases, alternative authentication methods (e.g., SMS OTP) will be provided.

6. Liability

SBI Card is not liable for unauthorized transactions resulting from compromised device security, misuse of your device, or registration of biometrics by unauthorized persons. Cardholders are responsible for maintaining the security of their device and biometric access controls

7. Revocation of Consent

You may disable biometric authentication anytime through the merchant app. Subsequent transactions will continue using alternate authentication methods such as OTP.

8. Updates to Terms

SBI Card reserves the right to update or modify these Terms & Conditions which shall be duly intimated on our official website and mobile application. Continued use of biometric authentication after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

Authentication and security-related records may be retained for fraud prevention, audit, regulatory and dispute management purposes
